Whether we believe it or not, acknowledge it or not, and accept it or not, in our spirits lie an irreplaceable need for God, that we cannot deny! A cry that may be drowned out by the constant hum of our mundane daily activities, that we call life. The flesh, which is contrary to the spirit of God, cannot bear for us to "Be Still", lest we hear this cry for the Most High or his loving response.
Despite the busyness of our lives, we own this truth in our necessitated moment of stillness, right before sleep, yet with wakefulness comes the deceit of the enemy and the struggle ensues once again. He beguiles us with the pleasures of this world, stolen promises made to us by God, but not without his Kingdom. Deceived by the enemy we make these pleasures, our goals, the purpose of our lives.
The drought of our spirit is the longing for our One true Purpose, That is To Love The Lord, with all our heart and all our soul and all our mind (Matt 22:37). The simplicity of this revelation may be shocking to many, but in loving the lord, we glorify him with all we are, and this is our innermost desire, to love him, glorify him and honour him.
For those of us who have accepted this truth, we seek ways to show him our love, our efforts vary and maybe dissatisfying to us. We must however realize that it is him we seek to please, not ourselves or others. Knowing how to please the lord, is not a mystery we must attempt to uncover. It is revealed in his commandment "And you shall love the lord, with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. This is the first commandment, and the second like it is this, you shall love your neighbour as yourself, there is no other greater commandment than these"
The acquiescence of this commandment is relatively easy but its application for many Christians proves a challenge. It is merely this, in all things we must be Christlike. At our jobs, our relationships, our conversations, our values, ideas, even in our thoughts. It is not about being perfect, for perfection cannot be found in the flesh, but rather allowing his spirit which lives in us to lead us, instead of leading him. To know what Christ is like, we must first know him, and we can only come to know him through his word. It is all there, that is the only way.
He is the heir of God's kingdom and we are co-heirs with him. Being like him is not a feat too great to attain, it is the acknowledgement that he is in us, and that he is greater than this world.Let us not forget, this world is not our home, but enemy occupied territory without a second of ceasefire. In all things let us remember that is its by his Grace that We Are.
Therefore let us take his lead today, and love him with our lives and in so doing we will love others also, as he commands.
